Proudfoot Celebrates Yorkshire Heritage With Tasting Event
Proudfoot’s Newby supermarket celebrated their Yorkshire heritage yesterday by holding a “reet grand” tasting event to mark Yorkshire Day.
The event took place at the Scalby Road store and showcased food and drink from a wide variety of local suppliers, including Beacon Farm Ice Cream, Yorkshire Baker, Wold Top Brewery, Masons Yorkshire Gin, McCain and many more. The event also offered product sampling, prize draws and face painting, whilst hampers were raffled to raise money for local causes via the store’s Making a Difference Locally fund.
The event was widely advertised via local newspaper and radio, and online via social media and the Proudfoot website.
One customer said: “I think it’s great that Proudfoot are supporting Yorkshire suppliers and showcasing local products. This event has encouraged us to try new products that we wouldn’t usually buy and it’s been a very enjoyable day.”
Valerie Aston, co-director of the Proudfoot Group, commented: “We have always been proud to support Yorkshire producers and our annual Yorkshire Day event aims to showcase some of the fantastic local produce available, while encouraging the local community to celebrate this fantastic county with us.
“Customers can speak to the passionate people behind the local produce they’re tasting and it gets different products in their basket. We’ve seen some new faces as well as a lot of returning ones.
“There was a fantastic atmosphere in-store and the day received some great feedback from our customers and suppliers alike.”
Co-director Marcus Proudfoot added: “Independent retailing is all about the people. Giving something back to the community and having that extra level of engagement with them is what sets us apart from the larger chains.”
