Cash Boost For Youth Project's Good Work
A Scarborough youth project has been presented with a cheque for £200 to continue its good work in the community.
Local retailer the Proudfoot Group has donated the money to Sidewalk Youth Project, which is a Christian charity supported by local churches in Scarborough to offer young people support and guidance through detached youth work on the streets.
The donation will be used to buy resources for the youth project’s detached work, which includes arts and craft materials and sports equipment.
The Proudfoot Group raised the £200 through the Making A Difference Locally (MADL) charity through its membership of Nisa.
MADL is an independent registered charity created in 2008 with the intention of assisting more than 2,000 independent retailers throughout the UK raise money for their local communities.
The charity enables retailers to raise money through the sale of participating products promoted in store where a specified amount of the cost of the product is allocated to a fund.
Retailers are then able to withdraw at any time and donate to local charities and good causes that they feel would benefit from a donation.
The Proudfoot Group has donated £5,400 so far this year and continues to make a difference to local causes across the Scarborough region.
Valerie Aston, of the Proudfoot Group, said: “The work that Sidewalk Youth Project does is crucial to young people in the area and we are pleased to be able to help them with this donation.”
Andrew Skinner, project coordinator at Sidewalk Youth Project said: “We are delighted to receive a donation from the Making a Difference Locally fund.
“As a small charity we are dependent on grants and donations and are really grateful for everything we receive.
“Sidewalk has been working on the streets of Scarborough for over twenty years. We offer support and guidance to young people and try to address the needs of our communities. “This donation will enable us to purchase arts and sports equipment to use to engage with young people during our detached youth work sessions.”

Sidewalk Youth Project is a registered charity that has been working in Scarborough for over twenty years.
Founded by Churches Together in 1989, Sidewalk seeks to draw along side young people and develop trusting relationships with a view to building stronger communities together.

Sidewalk employs both Christian and non-Christian workers, each with a unique world view.”
Where are we?
Sidewalk’s administration takes place at the Community Arts Centre office at St James’ Church in Seamer Road, which is shared with Faith in Scarborough Schools and the arts co-ordinator for the centre.
The charity also uses the Rainbow Centre as a base when doing work on an evening.
