£500 MADL Donation To Seamer Juniors FC
Scarborough-based retailer The Proudfoot Group have made a significant donation to a newly-established local football team this month.
The family-run independent supermarket chain have generously donated £500 to support budding young footballers at FC Seamer Juniors, in time for the start of their first season.
The cheque was presented by Marcus Proudfoot of the Proudfoot Group last Saturday at the Seamer Sports Association Sports Fields where the team play their home games. The donation will be used towards purchasing new football kit and training tops for the newly-formed Under 13s team “Seamer Stormers”, which, with the only sign up criteria being “an enthusiastic and positive attitude”, already has a squad of 16 young players.
The money was raised through Nisa’s Making A Difference Locally charity, from customers purchasing items from the own-label Heritage range and certain branded products in store. A percentage of the sale cost of these items then goes into a virtual fund to be donated to local charities and good causes of the store owners’ choice.
FC Seamer Juniors offer FA licensed and Youth Award Module 1 and 2 qualified coaching, and currently has nine teams playing in the Scarborough & District Minor league and the Hull Boys league. The aim of the club is to promote football in the local community, whilst creating a child friendly and pressure-free environment for learning and enjoying playing football.
David Gomersall, FC Seamer Juniors Treasurer (and Seamer Stormers U13 Coach) said of the donation: “The donation will significantly contribute to our new U13's team Seamer Stormers playing kit and training tops. We have taken on this new team based on the FA Youth Award model of equal game time and player development over results; and have had lots of good feedback, both locally and nationally. We are very grateful for this kind donation which is very much appreciated.”
The Proudfoot Group is an independent, family-run chain of supermarkets established in the Scarborough area, with stores in the Newby, Eastfield and Seamer districts. The company has won many awards for its service over the years, including the “Nisa Award for Excellence - Best Supermarket Store”, and most recently, a prestigious Gold at Yorkshire in Bloom awards earlier this month.
Valerie Aston, Buying and Distribution Controller for the Proudfoot Group commented: “We are delighted to be helping a new group of young footballers who show great character and teamwork, and wish them well in their first season together.”
