£1000 MADL Donation To Theatre's Outreach Project
A new £350,000 community facility in Scarborough has opened its doors to the public with a grand opening and taster day.
In its 60th anniversary year, the Stephen Joseph Theatre unveiled The OutReach Rooms, a new dedicated learning space for its OutReach department which runs a varied programme of creative activities and works in, with and for the community.
Following a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 17 at noon, workshops took place throughout the day to showcase the range of activities on offer, including performances for toddlers, adult writing, stage combat, youth theatre, play reading, blood and guts stage make-up, circus skills, singing, storytelling and more.
Artistic director Chris Monks said: “Everyone at the theatre senses that these new spaces will invigorate our work and encourage more people to get creative.”
The development has been made possible through a £275,000 Arts Council Capital Grant via the National Lottery plus additional funds from donors, sponsors and raised through special events and public donations.
One of the donors was Proudfoot, with representative Valerie Aston pictured handing over £1,000 to the Out Reach Rooms project.
