Proudfoot Support Local Age UK Branch with Carrier Bag Funds
Age UK Scarborough and District have benefited from a donation of £2,500 this month, raised through customer purchases of 5p carrier in Proudfoot stores.
The donation will help towards running costs of the charity’s services and activities for local people, which include health, wellbeing and employability services and group activities such as chair-based exercise classes; all for the over 50s in Scarborough and the surrounding areas.
Scarborough retailer The Proudfoot Group has supported four local causes over the last year with proceeds raised through customer purchases of 5p carrier bag in its stores. The group’s five stores have been raising money on a voluntary basis for good causes in this way since the introduction of the 5p carrier bag charge in 2015 and have donated over £40,000 from the funds raised to charities and other groups in the area.
Julie Macey-Hewitt, Chief Executive Officer of Age UK Scarborough and District, said: “Age UK Scarborough & District are a local independent charity serving the over 50s across Scarborough, Whitby, Filey and Ryedale.
“We have a number of services, including befriending, a veterans service, health, wellbeing and employability and our group activities, like Extend, our chair based exercise classes.
“This money will enable our activities to continue and grow. We are currently undergoing extensive renovation work to our building on Aberdeen Walk in Scarborough, and this will mean a lot more activities to help reduce social isolation and loneliness.”
In addition to the £40,000+ raised through the carrier bag charge to date, Proudfoot stores have supported local causes with £54,000 in donations raised through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity.
