£250 Donation To Marie Curie

Marie Curie have received a charitable donation from Proudfoot supermarkets.

The family-run supermarket group supported the charity with a donation of £250 through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity, which raises funds from the sale of  Co-op Own Label items and products featured on the Proudfoot promotional leaflet, in addition to funds raised via the four supermarkets’ in-store collecting tins.

Marie Curie fund care and support for people living with a terminal illness, and their families, across the UK. They believe everyone living with a terminal illness should be able to get the most from the time they have left, however hard that may sometimes feel. The charity relies on the generosity of supporters, with around two-thirds of the money they spend each year coming from the people, companies and trusts who decide to support them, and the remaining third from the NHS.

Emma Williams, Community Fundraiser for Marie Curie, said: “The Marie Curie nursing service covers all of North Yorkshire and provides vital care in Scarborough. Last year Marie Curie nurses made 3255 visits into people’s homes across Scarborough, Filey and Ryedale and this allowed 429 terminally ill people to remain in their own home whilst having the expert care they need. Our nurses care for people in their own homes, providing one-to-one care overnight and support for family members. And we’re always here with expert information, guidance or just a shoulder to lean on.

“As the UK's leading charity for people with any terminal illness, Marie Curie campaigns to put palliative care on the government’s agenda and make vital policy changes for people who are living with a terminal illness. Research shows that 63% of people want to die in the comfort of their own home.  Yet, 55% of people die in hospital, the place many people least want to be. At Marie Curie we do not think these statistics are okay and we fight to give more people choice and a voice at the end of their life. Being a part of this movement is something that I am very proud of.”
