Proudfoot supermarkets support 2nd Scarborough (Westborough) Guide unit
2nd Scarborough (Westborough) Guide unit have received a charitable donation from Proudfoot supermarkets this month to support them in their 100th year.
The family-run supermarket group supported the local cause with a donation of £250 through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity, which raises funds from the sale of Heritage own label products and branded items featured on the Proudfoot promotional leaflet, in addition to funds raised via the four supermarkets’ in-store collecting tins.
2nd Scarborough (Westborough) Guide unit currently comprises 22 Guides aged 10-14. The unit will be 100 years old on 1 November 2019, so have a year of trips and events planned for the girls to mark their centenary year. These include taking part in a camp in August this year, a trip to Edinburgh in February 2020 and a number of evening trips (to be chosen by the girls). In addition, the group has planned a trip to Flamingo Land and a sleepover for all the Girlguiding units based at Westborough, with events to be funded by fundraising including holding coffee mornings and serving refreshments at concerts, to make the trips as affordable as possible for all the girls to attend.
Throughout all the trips the Guides will follow the six main elements of the Girlguiding Programme - Know Myself (including building confidence and exploring emotions); Express Myself (developing creativity and passing on their skills); Be Well (keeping healthy both mentally and physically); Have Adventures (overcoming fears and exploring the world around them); Take Action (volunteering and fundraising) and Skills for My Future (developing skills that will help them later in life).
Fiona Kemp, Leader of the 2nd Scarborough (Westborough) Guides, said: “This donation you have kindly given will go towards these trips to make them more affordable to all the girls.”
Valerie Aston, director at the Proudfoot Group, added: “We are delighted to be able to use our Making a Difference Locally funds to support 2nd Scarborough (Westborough) Guides.
“We would like to thank our customers for their continued support, through the in-store collecting tins and purchases of selected products in our stores; as without their support these community donations would not be possible.”
