Proudfoot supermarkets help keep Moorsbus wheels turning

Moorsbus Community Interest Company have received a charitable donation from Proudfoot supermarkets this month to go towards a ramblers bus service to Dalby Forest.

The family-run Scarborough supermarket group supported the local cause with a donation of £250 through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity, which raises funds from the sale of Heritage own label products and branded items featured on the Proudfoot promotional leaflet, in addition to funds raised via the four supermarkets’ in-store collecting tins.

Moorsbus enables people to get out of town and into the countryside on friendly, reliable buses, for exercise, companionship and to lift their spirits with a wonderful landscape. 

"Moorsbus Community Interest Company" and "Friends of Moorsbus" are all volunteers and have been raising money since 2014 to pay for buses, to enable people without cars to access the North York Moors National Park. The groups raise enough for 22 - 44-seater wheelchair accessible buses, which accept the usual ENCTS bus passes that many senior citizens utilize. In 2018, ticket machines on all the buses combined recorded over 10,000 passenger journeys. 

Helen Gundy, Volunteer at Friends of Moorsbus and Moorsbus CIC, said of the donation: “One of the hardest jobs we do as volunteers is the fundraising. The Nisa donation from Proudfoot that we applied for is for the bus into Dalby Forest and up through Rosedale to Danby. It will cost us £10,375 for the Sunday (and Bank Holidays) bus and £7,744 for the Saturday bus, so we are really pleased to have some help from Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity and Proudfoot in Scarborough this year.”

“We would like to thank our customers for their continued support, through the in-store collecting tins and purchases of selected products in our stores; as without their support these community donations would not be possible.”
