Proudfoot Customers Support Local RSPCA Branch
The RSPCA Scarborough & District Branch have given thanks to the staff and customers of Proudfoot for their generous donation of £2,500 which will go towards local animal welfare and re-homing.
As a separately registered charity, the RSPCA Scarborough & District Branch has to raise money locally to continue to deliver vital animal welfare and re-homing services within the branch area, which spans from Whitby to Filey and across to Helmsley.
The funds were raised in Proudfoot stores, solely from the sale of 5p carrier bags to customers. Proudfoot supermarkets have been raising money for local causes in this way since the introduction of the mandatory 5p carrier bag charge, and have already donated over £27,500 from the funds raised to charities in the area.
RSPCA Scarborough Branch Administrator Nicola Byrne said: “Earlier this year we opened our new charity shop on Aberdeen Walk in Scarborough. This is currently the main source of our fundraising, thanks to our local supporters who donate and purchase our quality pre-owned items.
“It was such a boost when Proudfoot got in touch to let us know they wanted to support their local Branch of the RSPCA. A generous donation like this really does make such a difference to the animals in our care, we are all so very grateful for their support.”
Valerie Aston, director at The Proudfoot Group, added: “Despite seeing a huge decline in the usage of single use carrier bags in our stores following the introduction of the 5p charge, we are delighted that the funds raised from the remaining carrier bags bought by our customers are able to support some fantastic local causes.”
