Proudfoot MADL Donation MENCAP

£500 MADL Donation To Mencap

The Proudfoot Group have supported a local Mencap branch by making a significant donation through Making a Difference Locally this month.

The family-run independent supermarket chain generously donated £500 to the charity to support people with learning disabilities in the Scarborough and District community.

The donation will be used towards purchasing equipment for the charities’ new multi-sensory room, which will provide people with learning difficulties a stimulating and relaxed atmosphere which can offer a range of mental and physical benefits.

The money was raised through Nisa’s Making A Difference Locally charity, from customers purchasing items from the own-label Heritage range and certain branded products in store. A percentage of the sale cost of these items then goes into a virtual fund to be donated to local charities and good causes of the store owners’ choice. The Proudfoot Group also donated £500 through the charity to local youth football club FC Seamer Juniors earlier this month, to purchase new kits for the youngsters.

Valerie Aston, Buying and Distribution Controller for the Proudfoot Group said of their donation: “Scarborough and District Mencap do so much for local people with learning difficulties, and we are delighted to be able to contribute to their funds to buy additional equipment for the sensory room.”

Mencap offers a range of specialist services to support people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and complex needs, and help them to live as full and active a life as possible. They provide support and advice for people with a disability as well as their families and carers, through dedicated helplines, services and social activities.

CEO of Scarborough and District MENCAP, Carol Etherington commented: “Some of our service users require a lot of multi-sensory activities and a wide range of therapeutic support. The equipment in our new sensory room will help us to provide much-needed respite for parents and carers, whilst extending and enriching the range of activities and support we can provide to the children and adults who are referred to us by the local authority and health services. We are grateful for this donation because it will really help us to make a difference locally!”
